ITU Telecom World Awards Winners Announced

lnnovative tech solutions with the potential to change lives across the globe were highlighted at the ITU Telecom World Awards 2018 ceremony on the closing day of ITU Telecom World 2018, the global event for governments, corporates and small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector, held this week in Durban, South Africa.

From digital agriculture, mobile learning, education and healthcare, to virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR), satellite, automotive repair and more, the fourth edition of the ITU Telecom World Awards celebrated creativity and innovation in digital solutions meeting real-world social needs.

Winners and finalists in several categories were presented with trophies and certificates by ITU Secretary-General Houlin Zhao in a high-profile ceremony in the presence of government ministers, industry leaders, representatives of media and other high-level delegates from across the globe.

Participants took part in an adrenaline-filled live pitching session during the award ceremony itself, during which they shared the innovative approach of their entry, and the social impact that it is capable of creating.

“I have been delighted to discover this week at ITU Telecom World 2019 many SMEs and great innovations with genuine potential to improve lives and connect the unconnected,” said ITU Secretary-General, Houlin Zhao. “It is my sincere hope that the global recognition of receiving an ITU Telecom World Award from an international panel of experts, will help these talented enterprise owners to scale-up and take their business onto a global stage.”

The Global SME Awards recognized the best innovative ICT-based solutions with social impact from SMEs present at the event in five classes – Best Business Model, Most Scalable, Most Innovative Use of ICT, Greatest Social Impact and the Global SME Excellence Award for the SME with the highest all-around score.

Corporate Awards were presented for the most promising innovative solutions with social impact in the areas of sustainable development and smart emerging technologies.

In addition, the government with the most innovative SMEs included in their National Pavilion at ITU Telecom World 2018 was recognized with the ITU Telecom World Government Award; and the Host Country Awards recognized the most promising SME solutions at the event from South Africa, the event host.

All SMEs in these categories underwent a rigorous application and selection process, with an external jury of social entrepreneurship and tech experts assessing each entrant on the basis of business model, scalability, innovation and social impact. Those shortlisted for the Global SME Awards were invited to take part in a quick-fire pitching sessions in front of an expert jury, during the event.

lnnovative digital solutions with social impact came under the spotlight at the ITU Telecom World Awards 2017 prize ceremony on the closing day of leading tech event ITU Telecom World 2017 in Busan, Republic of Korea.

From micro-lending to a location-based shopping platform, an artificial intelligence-powered concierge robot, a digital data analytics solution and a voice recognition-based diagnostic system for babies, the third edition of the ITU Telecom World Awards celebrated creativity and innovation in digital solutions meeting real-world social needs.

Winners and finalists in several categories were presented with trophies and certificates by ITU Secretary-General Houlin Zhao in a high-profile ceremony in the presence of ministers, industry leaders, representatives of media, academia and international organizations from across the globe.

“Winning an ITU Telecom World Award and having innovative solutions recognized by a global panel of experts at our event will help these talented enterprise owners to grow and scale up their business, taking it to the next stage. iMoSyS takes innovations to ITU Telecom World 2018 Summit

iMoSyS, an upcoming ICT company in Malawi is representing the country at this year’s ITU Telecom World 2018 Summit under the theme “Innovation for smarter digital development” from 10th to 13th September, 2018 in Durban, South Africa where the Malawian company will exhibit its innovations.

Apart from that, iMoSyS is amongst a few shortlisted companies that are going to pitch for Global SME award for the most promising solutions from top ICT Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) around the world making innovative use of ICTs with social impact.

According to the ITU World Telecoms website, the best global Small & Medium Enterprise (SME) award is given to the ICT Company in recognition of the excellence in providing innovative solutions with real social impact.

iMoSyS solutions tackle challenges in key areas that are instrumental for the development of a country, namely health, energy, agriculture, water, industrialization and education.

“This forum will enable iMoSyS to exhibit solutions that accelerate social and economic development, as well as network with top ICT companies from around the world and create new business opportunities outside the country,” said Mayamiko Nkoloma, CEO for iMoSyS.

Nkoloma emphasised that participation in ITU Summit exposes the company to international standards.

“The knowledge that will be gained from the forum will enable iMoSyS to provide smart ICT services of international standards to Malawi and other markets that we plan to explore,” he said.

He underlined iMoSyS commitment towards bringing tailor-made ICT products and services that have social impact to Malawians.

“As a Malawian company we will remain committed to offer tailor-made products and services in the country. We are attending this world top ICT forum for the second consecutive year,” he said.

ICT firm, iMoSyS, contributes K3 million towards engineers’ conference

Blantyre, October 10, 2018— Malawi’s an upcoming ICT company iMoSyS, is pleased to announce the donation of K3 million to the Malawi Institution of Engineers (MIE) as a contribution towards the organisation’s Annual Lake shore conference in Mangochi.

The conference is scheduled from October 18 –19, 2018 at Sunbird Nkopola Lodge, under the theme Championing Sustainable Energy and Water Development”.

Speaking during the cheque presentation in Blantyre, iMoSyS Chief Executive Officer Mayamiko Nkoloma said the company felt obliged to support the engineers because of its remarkable role it plays in promoting the advancement of technology in the country.

“As a truly Malawian ICT company we felt obliged to supporting this conference because iMoSyS appreciates and value the role of engineers plays in enhancing infrastructure development which in turn fosters economic growth of the country,” said Nkoloma.

Nkoloma said engineering profession is a critical input in economic development growth efforts in Malawi.

“We believe that gatherings like of engineers provides a platform for professionals to discuss issues for the common good of our business and economic growth for Malawi. iMoSyS is striving to enhance sustainable development of engineering to drive effective delivery of telecommunication and ICT products and services,” he said.

Receiving the donation MIE Executive Secretary Engineer Martin Chizalema hailed iMoSyS for the support towards the conference.

“We are very grateful to iMoSyS for this kind gesture as this money will go a long way towards meeting the expenses for the indaba. Apart from hosting the conference the institution will give back to the community around Mangochi,” said Chizalema

The conference which is being hosted in collaboration with the Malawi Board of Engineers is expected to attract over 300 leading professional Engineers, Technicians and Non-engineers working in various public and private sectors including Chief Executives and Senior Government officials.
